ABSTRACT
Since the creation of the Pacific Alliance as a regional economical block, and boosted by the current
situation of MERCOSUR, different actors have proposed the need to analyze the integration
of Uruguay as a full member of the first alliance. The present study tries to answer that question
from the viewpoint of tax preferences and trade complementarity offered by the Index of Economic
Complementarity. The analysis of this index shows an interesting magnitude of Uruguay as
exporter to countries of the Pacific Alliance, but is notoriously negative when considering Uruguay
as an importer.
