Abstract

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are key to the population and economy of countries since the product and employment they generate depend on their activity and economic performance. Uruguay  does not escape this reality. The article’s theoretical framework consists of two main lines: intercompany
cooperation networks and the competitiveness of firms as ways to achieve the long-term survival of SMEs. Various factors such as access to credit, training human resources, access to external markets, the low level of association in networks of SMEs and competitiveness are often difficult to overcome and achieve long-term survival. The lines of action point out ways to overcome these restrictions.
